Ron Paul edges out Romney, Huntsman in New Hampshire Primary Poll
Ron Paul, edged out former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney and former Utah Governor Jon Huntsman in the second to last 2012 New Hampshire Primary online straw poll Monday.
Mr. Paul pulled in 28 percent of the votes (1,844 votes) for a first place finish. Mr. Huntsman garnered 24 percent of the votes (1,586 votes) for a second place finish and Mr. Romney earned 23 percent of the votes (1,505 votes) for a third place finish.
| Mr. Paul grabbed 2nd in a 7 New/Suffolk University poll of likely New Hampshire Republican primary voters released Tuesday. The Texas congressman grabbed 16 percent of the votes, but was bested by Mr. Romney’s 43 percent. Mr. Huntsman defeated former House Speaker Newt Gingrich by 1 percentage point. The former U.S. ambassador to China pulled in 10 percent of the votes in the 7 News/Suffolk University poll to finish in the top-tier of GOP candidates in New Hampshire. |
While some commentators have already concluded that a Paul victory in the Hawkeye State will discredit the Iowa Caucuses, others are questioning whether the New Hampshire primary really matters.
The Washington Post’s Chris Cillizza wrote Monday that “if Romney wins Iowa, the momentum from that somewhat-unexpected victory would make it next-to-impossible for any candidate to come close to beating him in the Granite State.” Mr. Cillizza adds that Mr. Romney’s rivals have acknowledged that statement and “seem to be doing all they can to downplay New Hampshire.”
The 2012 New Hampshire Primary straw poll is part of a series of online straw polls that have been conducted by 2012 New Hampshire Primary. Monday’s poll included 6,528 voters. The 2012 New Hampshire straw poll is not a scientific poll.
