The Republican-controlled House of Representatives approved an amendment late Friday afternoon that will eliminate funding for the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). The measure, known as the Poe-Carter Amendment after its sponsors, Reps. Ted Poe and John Carter of Texas, is part of the Fiscal Year 2011 Continuing Resolution.

The Illinois House passed a massive income-tax increase Tuesday to help the state dig out of a $13 billion deficit, despite opposition from Republicans and business groups.
The measure passed by a vote of 60-57. The state Senate approved the measure early Wednesday morning. A new legislature, with narrower Democratic majorities in both houses, will be sworn in at noon Wednesday.
Among the increases in the bill, the individual income-tax rate would jump to 5% from 3%. That would cost a family of three making $60,000 about $1,080 more each year in income taxes, according to figures from the Illinois Policy Institute, a nonpartisan free-market think tank. The corporate tax would rise to 7% from 4.8%.
Gov. Pat Quinn came to the House floor to shake hands and congratulate lawmakers after the vote. He is expected to sign the bill Wednesday.
Proponents said the bill was necessary to forestall a wave of public and private defaults, layoffs and foreclosures if the state didn’t start paying its bills.

But the leadership failed to win over some rank-and-file members or a single member of the Republican minority, who said the measure would hurt economic growth and working families. Opponents also objected to a spending provision within the bill that would hold growth to 2% a year, arguing the state needs actual cuts.

U.S. To Boycott 2016 Olympic Games: Citing Racism By Olympic Committee’s Rejection Of Chicago’s Bid On First Ballot.
WASHINGTON (PCPI) White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs today announced that the United States will boycott the 2016 Olympic Games, citing the unprecedented racism displayed by the International Olympic Committee in rejecting Chicago’s bid to host the games on the first ballot.
“It really is disappointing to see racism rear its ugly head in the decision making process for an event that is supposed to transcend human divisions,” said Gibbs. “Only the most hardened of white supremacists could possible turn down the claims of vicarious victimhood advanced by the First Lady in her speech graciously presented to the IOC. I think they actually reveled in her agony rather than be moved to a proper submissive reception of her demands.” 
Even more surprising was the IOC’s obstinacy in the face of not only Oprah Winfrey’s presence, but in snubbing the Greatest President in All American History, Barrack Hussein Obama. Both were stunned by the IOC’s adamant refusal to even consider the Chicago venue for the games. Upon his return to Washington President Obama was quick to sign an executive order calling for a boycott of the games.

“If I have a former president who I consider a mentor, it has to Jimmy Carter, a man of integrity and intelligence,” said Obama. “Given his example in a similar situation in 1980, I have a clear precedent to work from here.” The United States boycotted the 1980 Moscow games in protest of the racist policies of the post-Stalin Soviet Union. “I have no choice here,” the President stated, “there’s nothing personal in this executive order. But I cannot stand by and allow this blatant attack on all persons of color world wide to pass by without some kind of action.”
Attorney General Eric Holder has opened an investigation of the hate crime committed in Copenhagen (which is notorious for the number of blonde-haired, blue-eyed residents) and the White House has called for Congressional hearings to determine if any criminal charges can be brought against foreign nationals.
The First Lady has been heroic in her stoicism regarding the entire incident. “It was exceptionally difficult to bear this new humiliation. I had hoped that for the first time in my life, I could be proud of my planet. But the hatred and racism that have kept me down throughout my life are still at work,” she said in a prepared statement.
