Breaking => Mojave Veteran Christian Cross Resurrected: Liberty Institute Hands ACLU Another Loss!

After years of legal battles, the Mojave Desert Veterans Memorial Cross will finally be returned to its rightful place on Sunrise Rock.

November 11 will mark the end of the 11-year fight to save the memorial cross, which was first erected in 1934 to honor those who bravely served in World War I.

For more than 70 years, this veterans memorial stood in the middle of the 1.6 million-acre Mojave National Preserve in California. But, in 2001, the complaint of one individual sparked a lawsuit by the ACLU and compromised the fate of this memorial and other veterans memorials across the country that contain religious imagery.

Lower federal courts declared the memorial cross unconstitutional and prohibited Congress from transferring the memorial and the land upon which it sat to the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW). However, in 2010, the U.S. Supreme Court reversed the lower courts ruling and declared the land transfer constitutional. Friday marks the much-anticipated close of that land transfer.

This closing is a long-awaited victory for our veterans and a huge win for religious freedom. Unfortunately, cases like this are becoming more frequent as radical groups like the ACLU and Freedom From Religion Foundation have launched a national cleansing effort to tear down veterans memorials across the country that contain religious imagery.

If even one of these veterans’ memorials is torn down because of their efforts, these enemies of religious liberty will ultimately attack the memorials in Arlington National Cemetery and other federal cemeteries that honor veterans with religious imagery.

Thank you for standing with Liberty Institute with your prayers and support. Legal battles can require years to resolve and it is vital that we all stand strong until victory is achieved.

Please watch for next week’s issue of Liberty Watch for details on the celebration and official restoration of the memorial cross.

While we are deeply grateful for this victory, Liberty Institute is in the thick of several other legal battles to stop the ACLU and other radical groups from tearing down veterans’ memorials like Mt. Soledad Memorial Cross and the Maryland Peace Cross.

It is because of friends like you that Liberty Institute is able to win these critical battles, so please continue to share this story with your family and friends. You can help us defend these sacred veterans memorials by asking others to join with you in your support of Liberty’s winning efforts to defeat these vicious attacks from radical atheist groups. Our veterans selflessly served our country so that you could enjoy your freedoms, including the freedom of religion – now it is time for us to stand with them.

Your generous gift will also help us in our continued commitment to defend and restore religious liberty in America. Your donation will enable Liberty to have the resources it must have to be able to respond to increasing attacks on our religious libertiesThank you!
