The Missouri House has joined the Senate in overriding Governor Jay Nixon’s (D) veto of SB 656–legislation allowing schools to train teachers to become “School Protection Officers” and carry guns on campus with which to protect children.
On September 10, Breitbart News reported that the Missouri Senate voted 23 to 8 to override Nixon’s veto and allow teachers to be armed on campus. According to the NRA-ILA, the Missouri House followed in the Senate’s footsteps with a vote of 117 to 39.
SB 656 also legalizes the open carry of firearms “in all localities” by persons in possession of a concealed carry permit and lowers the age for acquiring a permit from 21 to 19. Additionally, the legislation bars public housing authorities from curtailing the right of “a lessee or a member of the lessee’s immediate household or guest [to] personally [possess] firearms.”
SB 656 will take effect 30 days after the current veto legislative session ends.
